Quick Review: The Best Black Friday Deal
- Our Editors’ Recommendation – Amerisleep AS3 is a versatile, medium mattress with excellent pressure point support and great responsiveness. It contains two revolutionary foams: First, the Bio-Pur® layer has an “advanced open-cell structure” that is five times more breathable than traditional memory foam. That means it keeps you cool all night as you sleep. Second, the HIVE® layer provides targeted support and comfort — so it’s firmer where you want it and softer where you need it. And like all Amerisleep mattresses, the AS3 comes with a 20-year warranty and a 100-night, risk-free trial period. This Black Friday, Amerisleep will be offering $200 off each of their mattresses plus up to two free pillows for Black Friday. To take advantage of this deal, use code BF200 at checkout.
- Runner Up – Leesa sells a mid-range memory foam mattress as well as a higher price hybrid mattress. It offers basic cooling features but does not have plant-based foam or targeted support layers. Promotional details are coming soon!
There are many beds on the market to choose from. Having some guidance to winnow out those beds that won’t be good for you will go a long way. Take some time to go over this best mattress guide by Amerisleep before you stop shopping this Black Friday.

Online vs. In-Store
Big retail chains offer some of their biggest discounts on Black Friday, but they also start at a higher price point. The discounts at an online retailer can look smaller while still adding up to a better deal. It’s worth checking out online deals on mattresses, to find the best Black Friday mattress sales available.
It may seem as though testing a mattress in-store is ideal, but that’s not always so1. At the very least, a person needs to lay on a mattress for 20 minutes to see if it’s going to meet their needs. Sleeping on it at home for at least a month is ideal. Since that’s impractical in a crowded store, most shoppers only try each mattress for two to three minutes at most. And based off those two to three minutes, they buy a mattress they may not be able to return.
The benefits of buying online are plentiful. Online retailers can provide the details you need to understand the features of each product. Also, you can get access to generous trial periods. Some online retailers offer trials of up to 100 days along with easy returns. There are other benefits to shopping online, such as:
-
-
- Customers don’t have to deal with high-pressure sales staff who may get bonuses for selling a certain brand.
-
-
-
- They don’t need to leave the comfort of their home to buy.
-
-
-
- Customers are often dealing with the supplier, so warranties, returns, and exchanges are simpler.
-
-
-
- Risk-free trial periods allow customers to try the mattress for longer than they would if they bought in a store.

What Makes Amerisleep Stand Out
Amerisleep uses high-quality, eco-friendly materials. These materials offer excellent comfort and health benefits. Advances in memory foam technology have allowed Amerisleep to create industry-leading mattresses with a unique set of layers and features. Below, we will go over what helps Amerisleep stand out.
Celliant® Cover
All Amerisleep mattresses include a cover made with Celliant® fabric. This fabric safely turns body heat into infrared light, which is absorbed by the body. When the body absorbs this infrared energy, there’s a temporary increase in local blood flow. The FDA has determined4 Celliant® offers several benefits, such as:
-
-
- Promoting restful sleep
-
-
-
- Increasing comfort
-
-
-
- Increasing energy
-
-
-
- Increasing local blood flow, which can promote pain relief and prevention
-
Bio-Pur® Layer
The top layer on all Amerisleep mattresses is Bio-Pur®. The advanced open-cell structure of their Bio-Pur® layer is superior to traditional memory foam in many ways. The open-cell structure lets air flow through the mattress, increasing breathability, resulting in a cooler sleeping experience. The Bio-Pur® layer is five times more breathable than traditional memory foam. It’s designed not to hold heat or cause discomfort while sleeping. Traditional memory foam is a dense material that traps air instead of allowing it to move freely through the mattress. This trapped air is what causes the mattress to overheat and can result in poor sleep.
Another benefit of Bio-Pur® is how it retains its original shape after movement. Traditional memory foam can take up to one minute to bounce back from use. Bio-Pur® returns to its original shape in less than 10 seconds. This lets Amerisleep mattresses conform to your body, providing support and comfort, without limiting your ability to move in bed.
Consumers who’ve slept on traditional memory foam often complained of a memory foam smell. This odor is the result of off-gassing. Off-gassing occurs as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the foam break down. As the VOCs break down, they escape into the air, causing an unpleasant odor. Many people worry about the potential negative effects of breathing in these odors.
Bio-Pur® is specifically designed to resolve this common problem. Traditionally, memory foam is made with foam that comes from 100% petroleum. Bio-Pur® replaces some of the petroleum with plant-based materials such as castor oil. Castor oil is more sustainable than petroleum and eco-friendly.
HIVE® Layer
Amerisleep mattresses also use a zoned support layer called HIVE®, which stands for Harnessing Intelligent Ventilation and Energy. The HIVE® layer appears in all Amerisleep’s mattresses except for the AS1, which removes the zoned support layer to create the firmest feel possible. The targeted back support of HIVE® is designed to provide firm support where needed and comfort and cushion where it is wanted.
The HIVE® layer is made of hundreds of small, hexagon-shaped cutouts grouped into five comfort zones:
-
-
- Head
-
-
-
- Shoulders
-
-
-
- Back
-
-
-
- Hips
-
-
-
- Feet
-
The head, back, and feet need firmer support. In these locations, the hexagons in the HIVE® layer are grouped closer together, so they compress less and provide more support.
In the shoulders and hips — the areas where the body requires a softer surface — the hexagons are spaced further apart, allowing the HIVE® layer to compress more, providing a soft, contouring surface.
Research conducted by the Better Sleep Council shows 81% of consumers want targeted back support from their mattress. Amerisleep meets that need with HIVE®. According to a clinical study5, HIVE® reduces pressure points up to 49%. As far as we know, HIVE® technology is the only targeted-support systems backed by third-party research.
Active Flex Layer (Only in the AS5)
Amerisleep’s Active Flex is a highly responsive layer of foam designed to offer comfort and support. Creating a soft mattress with memory foam is difficult. It requires more material, as the mattress needs to be supportive and soft at the same time. Also the softer the foam, the more it sinks, the more it sinks, the longer it takes to respond to its original shape. In soft memory foam mattresses, sleepers often complain of feeling stuck while waiting for the foam to bounce back. The Active Flex layer on Amerisleep’s mattresses solves this problem. Amerisleep puts 2 inches of Active Flex beneath the 3 inches of Bio-Pur® in their AS5 model. This combination allows for a soft mattress that supports as it contours.
Bio-Core® Layer
The Bio-Core® layer, which contributes to Amerisleep’s ability to offer a 20-year warranty, sits at the bottom of the mattress and is designed to support the above layers as they support you.
Eco-Friendly VPF Manufacturing
An eco-friendly manufacturing process called variable pressure foaming (VPF) is used to make all the layers of Amerisleep mattresses. The VPF process creates the foam within a sealed chamber, trapping pollutants inside a carbon filter, releasing virtually zero emissions into the environment. The VPF is the only manufacturing process that exceeds the standards of the Federal Clean Air Act. Not only is VPF better for the environment, but it’s also more efficient. VPF allows Amerisleep to create more foam from fewer raw materials, resulting in less waste, and greater savings for their customers.
Amerisleep’s Risk-Free, 100-Night Sleep Trial
Amerisleep backs its mattresses with a risk-free, 100-night sleep trial. This gives customers the chance to return their mattress for a full refund if they’re unsatisfied. The customer must request the refund within the first 100 nights to take advantage of this trial. If a refund is requested, Amerisleep works with a local partner to pick up and recycle the mattress. Customers don’t have to send the mattress back or keep the box or pay any return or delivery fees.
Remember, getting a new mattress is like getting a new pair of shoes. There is a break-in period. It’s perfectly normal to experience discomfort during the first few nights. This is especially true if you’re used to sleeping on an innerspring, hybrid, or lower-quality memory foam mattress. Because of this, it’s a good idea to try your new mattress for a period of at least 30 nights, giving your body ample opportunity to experience everything your new mattress can do for you.
Amerisleep’s Warranty
Amerisleep’s 20-year warranty is one of the longest warranties in the industry. The warranty promises no-cost replacements in the first 10 years. In the second 10 years, it provides reduced price, prorated replacements. The primary reason customers have to invoke this warranty is due to sagging. Amerisleep covers any sagging over 0.75 inches. This is among the lowest thresholds covered by any mattress warranty. Many other manufacturers have similar warranty terms, but they don’t cover sagging below 1 inch. Most hybrid or innerspring mattresses often require sagging of 1.25 inch or greater.
Mattress sagging leads to a loss of support and an increased risk of back pain. Amerisleep’s warranty is designed to ensure consumers have a good night’s sleep, every night. If back pain is something you currently experience, make sure to check out our post about the best mattresses for back pain.
Amerisleep Ratings and Reviews
With over 14,000 verified reviews, Amerisleep has received an average rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars.
Amerisleep’s Net Promoter Score (NPS) has determined 98% of customers would recommend their mattress to a friend. Reviews of Amerisleep in the media show its popularity as well. Allure magazine features the AS3 as one of their 19 best mattresses you can buy online right now. Business Insider also named the Amerisleep AS2, Amerisleep’s medium-firm model, as their best mattress for back pain. The article states, “The Amerisleep AS2 is as good as it gets when it comes to helping your back feel its best.”
Buy Amerisleep Now
Amerisleep started out selling their mattresses only through their website. While they now have select stores in Arizona, Colorado, and Texas (with a store scheduled to open in Washington this fall), they are still mainly an online mattress company. This business model allows Amerisleep to offer luxury products at an affordable price.
Best Innerspring Black Friday Sales
While innerspring mattresses continue to be a popular choice for many, they only have a 60% customer satisfaction rate (compared to 80% for memory foam users). This low score could be attributed to a few factors.
First, despite their initial comfort, innerspring mattresses have the shortest lifespan of all mattress styles. This is due to their proclivity to sag, which occurs because of their structure.
Second, innerspring mattresses are made primarily of coils. Although supportive, coils tend to indent after continued pressure. Sleepers looking for a bed that contours to their body will find memory foam is a better option.
Third, innerspring mattresses are often too firm for many sleepers. Innersprings don’t conform to the body and relieve pressure points the way memory foam does. This can lead to painful awakening and discomfort throughout the night.
Finally, partners who share innerspring mattresses often find their sleep disrupted. Innerspring coils rate poorly on their ability to isolate motion, so if a person moves on one side of the mattress, the other person often feels it.
Besides the above issues, innerspring mattresses are usually sold in stores as opposed to online. Not a definite indicator of lack of quality, but mattress retailers do tend to have higher prices, less customer-friendly return policies, and shorter warranties.
While the above disadvantages may concern many, some people still prefer the feel of an innerspring mattress. For those who opt for innerspring over memory foam, we’ve found the best Black Friday mattress deals on innerspring mattresses.
Editors’ Innerspring Recommendation: Serta iComfort Hybrid
The Serta iComfort Hybrid Expertise Super Pillow Top coil mattress is a hybrid like no other. It’s made with a layer of gel memory foam that keeps the bed a comfortable temperature. Thick layers of regular foam encase 1008 pocketed coils. This gives a plush feel with strong support that’s designed to provide a comfortable night’s sleep. Sale details are coming soon!
Second Innerspring Recommendation: Stearns & Foster Luxury Firm
Stearns & Foster, made by Sealy, is a well-known innerspring mattress brand. They often use a titanium Intelli-coil (one large coil which offers more comfort at the top of the coil and more support at the base of the coil). While we do not have exact details just yet, we can bet they will make our list. Sale details are coming soon!
